The Hmong-language edition of The Most Beautiful Thing, the book about Yang's grandmother and her one remaining tooth. The English edition's own note observes that a Hmong edition exists; this is that edition, and it belongs on the shelf as its own record because it is a separate book to buy and a different reading experience. The story is about a grandmother who grew up in Laos and a granddaughter who grew up in St. Paul, and the gap between them is partly a language gap — so a version the grandmother could read aloud closes something the English one cannot. Khoa Le's illustrations are unchanged. For ages 5 to 9, for bilingual families, and for classrooms where a Hmong-speaking elder might be invited to read.
