Hmong literature was oral for most of its history, carried in folktales, song poetry, and ritual speech long before it was carried in books. The collections here preserve that repertoire in print, from bilingual scholarly gatherings to single tales retold for children. Read them knowing each printed version is one telling among many; the tradition lives in the variations.
