Hmong Studies: A Reading Order
A path through the scholarship for a student or serious reader, ordered so each book supplies what the next one assumes. Start with the diaspora, add the war, then the deeper past, then the health-care classic, and finish with the literature the community built about itself. University press books dominate here because that is where the field lives.

Start Here: Hmong Literature in Five Books
Five books, in order, for a reader starting from zero: two memoirs, the outsider's classic, a prize-winning poetry collection, and a children's book built from a real story cloth. Read them in sequence and you will have the war, the camps, the resettlement, and the art, told mostly from inside the community. Each one points onward to a full shelf when you want more.
