Puag Saum Cov Ntsis Ntoo (From the Tops of the Trees)

The Hmong-language edition of From the Tops of the Trees, winner of the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. Young Kalia, who has never seen past the fence of Ban Vinai, asks her father whether the entire world is a refugee camp, and he climbs the tallest tree with her so she can see that it is not. Having that exchange available in Hmong matters more than usual here: the grandparents who lived in Zos Vib Nais are often the ones reading to the grandchildren, and until recently they could not do it in their own language.
