A short illustrated introduction for younger readers — Hmong traditions, daily life, and the work of holding onto a heritage — published by Lerner in 2001 at fifty-six pages. It is a school-library book, and should be read as one: the frame is the Hmong as a people to be introduced, which is what a fifty-six page overview for eleven-year-olds is structurally obliged to do. Within that, it is the kind of title a Hmong American child is most likely to actually encounter, since it is the format libraries buy. Worth knowing exists, and worth pairing with something written from inside the community.
