The Making of Hmong America
Kou Yang
Studies
Kou Yang is a Hmong American scholar and emeritus professor of ethnic studies whose work documents the Hmong role in the Secret War in Laos, the refugee exodus into Thailand, and the four decades of community-building that followed resettlement. He writes as someone who lived the period he studies, and his surveys are among the few to treat the whole arc, from wartime alliance through the long argument over where Hmong refugees would be allowed to go.
