Yer J. Thao

Yer J. Thao is a Mong American educator and scholar whose research centers on oral tradition, elder knowledge, and cultural transmission in a community whose language had no widely used written form until the twentieth century. His work asks what is lost when a people who carried their history in speech resettle into a society that recognizes only writing as record, and what schools owe students who arrive from that tradition.
